Harewood House, nr Leeds, Yorkshire
1st Yorkshire Game Fair
Huge numbers of visitors made the organisers of the 1st Yorkshire Game Fair
at Harewood House victims of their own success. David Read the Event Director on behalf of HD Fairs Ltd said, “We must apologise to all those people who had to wait an unacceptable amount of time in the queue on Sunday. We literally had more than double the number of visitors anticipated and this of course led to a shortfall of catering and conveniences. By Monday morning all these matters were addressed. We were delighted to have the same number of visitors attend on Monday, entry was relatively speedy and we had drafted in more caterers and toilets to meet the demand.”
The Fair itself was a clear winner with a packed Main Arena, opened and closed by our very own Yorkshire Volunteers Band and included our Nations most eminent Falconer Jemima Parry-Jones MBE and the only ever female winner of BBC’s One Man and His Dog Katy Cropper.
Sir Johnny Scott from TV’s Clarissa & The Countryman, was on hand to award prizes to the winners of the many competitions held throughout the two days including the 1st Yorkshire Game Fair Perpetual Gundog Scurry trophy awarded to Mr Tony Walker with Candy. The junior winner was Adam Walker with Jet.
The organisers promise a bigger and better Game Fair next year with another access gate opening into the Harewood Estate off the Harrogate road alleviating the traffic problems experienced this year. An earlier opening time of 7.30 am plus a Game Fair Breakfast served at eight will help prepare visitors for the many new activities planned for a great day out at the the 2nd Yorkshire Game Fair on the Bank Holiday weekend, 24th and 25th of May 2009.
